  • Why Not The Best? Comparative Reports on Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infections

Users of WhyNotTheBest.org can now search for and compare data for nearly 1,000 hospitals on the incidence of central line–associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs)—one of the most lethal hospital-acquired complications. The data show wide variation in CLABSI incidence, in spite of strong evidence on how to prevent them. The updated data is made possible through a partnership among The Commonwealth Fund, The Leapfrog Group, and Consumers Union.

My husband had a test and they punctured his gall bladder twice and we lost our office and money and he received nothing from the hospital but IBS for the rest of his life and alot of pills to take. We lost over 42,000 and we still need help now. He was a Veteran and he gets nothing from the Gov. He now has hepatitis C and not long to live from a radiologist poor test on him.

When I was waiting for a heart transplant in 1996, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO an intern was performing a Swan Caterazation and “nicked” my lung. Blood began coming from my mouth. I was rushed to the OR and they plugged the bleeder. I learned (15 years later) it was a major blood vessel and I had lost the lower lobe of my right lung. Then, in 2002, at Duke University Hospital, I had that heart transplant. I had three episodes of rejection. Each time they gave me 1,000mg of Prednisone. I was a small woman with small bones. They gave me the same dose that they gave to 400lb men. The drug has destroyed my spine. My T3 is broken and my spinal cord is exposed. I don’t have long to live.

My dad had a MRSA infection after being in the hospital for 10 days. I told the doctors to clean up this infection to give my dad a fighting chance to live. Never been so mad in my life.

Required to sign a waiver right before surgery at UNC Hospital noting that dental injury was a “risk” of the pending anesthesia procedure prior to surgery. A crown was broken and only discovered after medication stopped and pain began when I returned home. Crown replacement involved several other teeth and the need for an implant…$6,000! Why isn’t there a mouthpiece used to prevent this type of injury? Why is a wavier presented minutes before surgery? Why no responsibility by the doctor???
