The inferior vena cava is a large venous trunk – the largest in the entire human body – that carries oxygen-poor blood from the lower part of the body (i.e. from the lower limbs and from all the organs below the diaphragm ) to the heart. Located mostly in the abdominal cavity – only a small portion runs into the thoracic cavity – it runs vertically to the right of the spine and abdominal aorta;

the small portion that runs inside the thoracic cavity then flows into the posteroinferior portion of the right atrium of the heart.What is the inferior vena cava?The inferior vena cava has an average length of 22 centimeters (of which 18 run in the abdomen) and a diameter of about 30 millimeters.

The inferior vena cava arises to the right of the fourth-fifth lumbar vertebrae from the confluence of two large veins, the common iliac veins, each of which in turn is formed by the fusion of the internal iliac vein with the external iliac vein on the same side of the body. The latter two collect blood from the lower limbs, pelvis, external genitalia and abdominal wall respectively.

In the two internal iliac veins the oxygen-poor blood flows from the organs and walls of the pelvis, from the genitals, from the buttocks and from the posterior-upper region of the thigh. On the other hand, the oxygen-poor blood from the corresponding lower limbs and the abdominal wall flows into the two external iliac veins.

What is the inferior vena cava for?The inferior vena cava collects and transports oxygen-poor blood from the lower body (i.e. from the lower limbs and all organs below the diaphragm) to the heart.

Today we will deal with pelvic pain, what it depends on, what are the causes and who to contact to improve and decrease pain. We will see how doctors help patients understand the cause of pain, and provide special exercises to improve pain.
Pelvic painWhat is the pelvic floor?

The pelvic floor is the group of muscles that cross the bottom of the pelvis. This muscle group is articulated and works to support the organs of the pelvis and abdominal cavity, allows the elimination of waste from the body and promotes sexual sensation and arousal. The perineum is a set of muscles arranged in different planes with different functions.

PERINEUM ANTERIOR, has a predominantly sexual function and protection from external stresses. It is formed by the muscles:Cavernous Bulb,Cancellous bulbConstrictor of the vagina.

PUBO-RECTAL MUSCLE is the continence muscle that allows us to control the sphincters through a voluntary contraction, often assisted by the adductors and buttocks.
TRANSVERSE MUSCLES play a role in the defecatory stimulus and in the expulsion reflex of the fetus.DEEP PERINEUM formed by the coccygeal, ileococcygeus and ischiococcygeus muscles has mainly a function of supporting the internal organs.
