On Saturday, October 9, the Empowered Patient Coalition along with Consumers Union’s Safe Patient Project and AARP California will be holding a special training in San Diego for patients and caregivers on how to stay safe in the hospital. The workshop will be led by Julia Hallisy and Helen Haskell, nationally known experienced patient safety advocates and the authors of the Guide to Hospital Care for Patients and Families. Also presenting will be special guest, Trisha Torrey of About.com’s Patient Empowerment Blog.
The workshop will offer practical advice on being an effective advocate during a hospital stay and tips on avoiding hospital acquired infections and medical errors. Every attendee will receive a free guide and refreshments will be provided.
You can watch our video interview of Helen here, about how she formed Mothers Against Medical Error after the death of her son Lewis due to medical error.
