Our Safe Patient Project Director, Lisa McGiffert, was on NPR’s Morning Edition yesterday that covered the Johnson and Johnson metal hip settlement. The segment also featured Mary Schrag, one of our medical device story sharers in Washington state, who lives in constant pain and can barely walk after having the defective metal hip implant.

In November 2013, Johnson & Johnson announced that it had reached a multi-billion dollar settlement to compensate eligible U.S. patients who received its ASR hip who had revision surgery to replace their ASR hip. On NPR, we emphasized the need for the FDA to require stricter safety testing and that hip and knee implant makers must warranty their products.
